Set within a striking Grade II listed Art Deco building, The Derby Conference Centre has a rich history that reaches back to its original opening in 1938 as the London, Midland and Scottish Railway’s (LMS) School of Transport, the first purpose built residential training college of its kind in the United Kingdom. Designed by William H. Hamlyn the centre was created to train railway operatives, signallers and engineers reflecting Derby’s long standing heritage at the heart of Britain’s rail industry. Over the decades, the building continued to serve as a hub for education and professional development before being reinvented in the late 20th and early 21st centuries as a versatile venue for events, conferences weddings and accommodation. Today this elegant former training college combines its historic architectural features including the iconic curved facade and famous Sunken Lounge with modern facilities, offering clients a truly unique and inspiring setting for celebrations, corporate functions and memorable overnight stays.
