About The Historic West Mill, Derbyshire

The West Mill in Derby is an 18th century historic industrial building located on the River Derwent, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Derwent Valley Mills. It has a fascinating history rooted in the early development of the Industrial Revolution and later adaptations.

As cotton spinning declined in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the West Mill adapted for other industrial uses, including storage and light manufacturing. Like many historic mills, it fell into disrepair in the 20th century due to the decline of traditional industries.

The building underwent a stunning renovation and reopened in 2015 as a luxury wedding venue. The West Mill is celebrated for its industrial-chic aesthetic, blending exposed brick, original features like cast-iron beams, and modern design elements. It offers a unique and atmospheric setting for weddings and events, combining historic character with contemporary luxury providing endless opportunities for breathtaking wedding photography.

The Mill House

Located just steps from the main venue, The Mill House features eight en-suite double bedrooms, offering elegant and comfortable accommodations for your nearest and dearest. It’s the ideal spot for guests to unwind in style after a day of celebration.

The Mill Cottage

For larger groups or those seeking extra space, The Mill Cottage provides a welcoming retreat. It includes:

• Three double bedrooms
• One twin room
• A sofa bed
• Two bathrooms
• A fully equipped kitchen

The cottage can comfortably sleep up to 10 adults, making it a fantastic choice for family or close friends to gather, relax, and prepare for your big day. The setup ensures everyone stays together while enjoying the convenience of being close to the venue.

Food

At The West Mill, the dining experience is as unique and special as the venue itself.
